Tree of Life
The Tree of Life is the NACUC logo because it is a symbol shared universally.
The tree bound to the book suggests the uniqueness of our relationship to our faith traditions and to the community of study and learning.
- Christianity: In Christian scripture from Genesis to Revelation the tree of life endures as an image of life and promise; “...the leaves of the trees serve for the healing of the nations.” (Revelation 22:2)
- Judaism: The Torah “is a tree of life to those who hold fast on it” - a constant and enlightening source of knowledge leading to flourishing of the human spirit and its divine essence.
- Buddhism: The Tree of Life represents the “Tree at the Center”- the “still point of the turning world” beneath which the Buddha overcame the temptations and received enlightenment.
- Native American Spirituality: The tree represents the spirit of the universe who protects human life; the spreading roots provide foundation, while the branches and leaves offer security to all creation.
